Job Title: Substitute School Nurse

We are seeking a qualified Substitute School Nurse to join our team at Barnwell School District 45. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing nursing care and health services to students in grades 4K-12.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide nursing care and physical screening to students, including assessing students and implementing first aid measures as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and referral activities for students.
  • Implement and record required screening programs, notify parents when further medical evaluation is indicated.
  • Prepare and maintain student clinic records and prepare required reports.
  • Administer daily and PRN medications and nursing care procedures prescribed by the student's physician.
  • Initiate emergency procedures for students and staff as needed.
  • Follow Individual Health Care Plans and Emergency Health Care Plans for students on a case-by-case basis.
  • Present, train, and maintain appropriate standards from OSHA regarding contact with and possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious body materials within the school or employment setting.
  • Provide health education as needed.
  • Follow procedures for suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
  • Act as a liaison between the school, home health department professionals, and other community agencies.
  • Manage the process for third-party billing with Medicaid to obtain reimbursement for skilled nursing care as needed.
  • Perform related work as required.
Requirements:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; Bachelor of Nursing Degree preferred.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of South Carolina and in good standing with the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • A minimum of one to three years nursing experience and experience in community health, pediatrics, emergency care, and triage, psychiatry, and/or a physician's office preferred.
  • Valid SC Nurses' License.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid/Stop the Bleed certification/training.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:

Requires standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine motor, and gross motor skills, bending, lifting, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching.

Ability to lift students as required and has the stamina to stand all day, every day of the week as needed.
