School Nurse Position

Job Summary:

The School Nurse position at Barnwell School District 45 is responsible for providing healthcare services to students and staff. The ideal candidate will have a current unrestricted South Carolina Registered Nurse License and a graduate of a State-approved nursing program. Basic computer skills and keyboarding proficiency are required, as well as Red Cross or American Heart Association BLS, CPR certification. A minimum of one year of experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer first aid and care to ill or injured students and staff as stipulated by District Policies and Procedures.
Document nursing interventions and maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
Provide reports as required by the District and State utilizing reporting systems.
Identify students with chronic illnesses, students whose conditions could result in emergency care, and students who will self-administer and self-monitor medications and/or procedures while at school.
Prepare Individual Health Care Plans and/or Emergency Action Plans on those students with chronic illness, students with conditions that could result in an emergency, and students who self-administer/self-monitor medications and/or procedures while at school.
Monitor student immunizations required by law and complete a 45-day immunization report required by SCDHEC.
Perform vision and hearing screening and appropriate follow-up as recommended by the State and District. Perform Assistance Team Screenings when indicated by Special Education Services.
Administer medication to students according to District and Nursing Board policies and guidelines, always adhering to LLR Nursing Board Guidelines.
Keep the school principal informed of any health-related problems and/or injuries at school requiring immediate care by EMS or parent pick up.
Complete appropriate incident reports and coordinate with District Office.
Report outbreaks of communicable diseases to the principal or Director of Special Services as appropriate. Adhere to the SC Exclusion Laws. Keep principal aware of process of reporting.
Complete Medicaid billing requirements and all paperwork associated with Medicaid in a timely manner.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the principal or Director of Special Services as appropriate, keeping duties to students in the health room as a first priority.

Professional Growth:

Attend nursing in-service programs provided by the District and State agencies.
Recognize the need for and secure verification of competencies for required procedures.
Maintain South Carolina licensure.
