Job Title: Field Leader

Job Summary:

A Field Leader at NiSource is responsible for providing leadership to a team of employees and/or contractors responsible for the field execution of gas distribution capital projects. This includes new main line extensions, replacement of aging gas mains and services, and relocating various facilities. The Field Leader oversees a broad geographic territory and ensures safe, reliable delivery of gas to communities and large customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Leadership: Promote and assure a safe working environment, and support the continued improvement of natural gas public safety.
  • Leadership and Coaching: Provide leadership, direction, and performance coaching to the front-line workforce, facilitating effective two-way communication.
  • Field Observations and Mitigation: Conduct field job observations and mitigate at-risk findings.
  • Development and Training: Actively manage the development, training, and evaluation of front-line workers to improve individual and team performance.
  • Operational Excellence: Motivate, coach, and develop staff to meet established objectives and promote operational excellence.
  • Resource Management: Ensure optimal use of resources by supporting the development and driving the execution of the teams' work plans.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with and build strong working relationships with internal and external groups to coordinate work efforts.
  • Technology and Tools: Ensure employees effectively use tools and technology to complete their daily work.
  • Compliance and Regulations: Ensure work is completed according to company standards and regulations.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Cultivate and advance a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Leadership Image: Convey a leadership image that is consistent with the organization's values, demonstrating the qualities, traits, and demeanor that commands leadership respect.
  • Emergency Response: Troubleshoot process systems and equipment when failures or inefficiencies occur and respond to emergencies within the company's established procedures and incident command system structure.

Requirements:

  • Four years of gas construction experience (or equivalent) with demonstrated ability to manage construction plans on time and on budget.
  • Preferred - associates or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Preferred - additional relevant certifications such as Project Management Professional, Certified Safety Professional, or Professional Engineer Certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to motivate stakeholders with varying priorities to accomplish a common goal.
  • Strong knowledge of on-the-job safety and compliance requirements and ability to grasp technical explanations of systems, processes, and equipment.
  • Ability to coach and develop employees and possess valid State Driver's License and clean driving record.
