We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Risk and Patient Safety Specialist to join our team at Geisinger Health. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in supporting our strategic goals and objectives related to clinical risk management.
Key Responsibilities- Claims Administration: Perform claims administration, identification of adverse patient events, investigation, documentation, and reporting to our Legal Services and Corporate Risk and Insurance departments.
- Risk Issue Communication: Communicate and report real and potential risk issues to department managers and administration as appropriate.
- Collaboration and Strategy Development: Collaborate with department managers to identify systemic performance shaping factors and staff perceptions of risk that lead to at-risk behaviors or human error. Work with departments to establish and monitor strategies to avoid, eliminate, and reduce risk situations associated with patient care and services.
- Trend Identification and Policy Development: Identify departmental trends for actual or potential risk management issues or patient safety concerns based on review of patient incidents and adverse patient events. Participate in the development and implementation of department and facility policies and procedures that affect managing risk and patient safety.
- Root Cause Analysis and Investigation: Conduct thorough and credible root cause analyses and investigations of adverse patient events. Consult and collaborate with the Legal Services department to mitigate potential loss associated with adverse patient events, including pre-litigation negotiations.
- Secondary Review and Follow-up: Provide secondary review of all patient incidents, visitor events, and infrastructure failures reported. Consult and collaborate with appropriate staff and departments as needed. Conduct follow-up on identified risk management cases and patient safety action items as a result of adverse patient events.
- Compliance and Education: Stay current with compliance requirements for regulatory agencies for the reporting of incidents, grievances, serious events, and other occurrences as required. Educate staff, both formally and informally, on principles of patient safety and risk management.
- Onsite Time and Travel: Spend a set amount of onsite time at selected healthcare facilities. Travel approximately once a month for visits to system-wide hospitals, as needed.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of RN experience is required; previous Clinical Risk and Patient Safety experience is a plus.
- Certification/License: Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - RN_State of Pennsylvania.
- Skills: Clinical skills, communication, computer literacy, critical thinking, organizing, teamwork, and working independently.
