Job Summary:An incumbent in this role is responsible for developing and improving curricula, instructing assigned courses, evaluating student learning, and fostering student success. The successful candidate will have a strong background in nursing and the ability to communicate effectively with students.
Key Responsibilities:- Plan, organize, and instruct courses as assigned by the Department Chairperson/supervisor, utilizing effective and engaging instructional strategies, the learning management system (LMS), appropriate communication, classroom management, leadership skills, and instructional/educational technology to promote student success.
- Demonstrate best practices in instruction and classroom management that respond to students' diverse academic needs.
- Use instructional technology, including multimedia, to meet students' learning needs and achieve the objectives of the academic program/College.
- Assist or lead in planning and/or developing new curriculum and courses, as assigned by the Department Chairperson/Dean. Evaluate and revise existing curriculum and courses as part of the annual course evaluation process and/or as assigned. Contribute to program review.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA).
- Serve as an advisor for students, utilizing effective advisement strategies, the Student Educational Plan, and other advisement tools to promote student retention and progression.
- Assist students toward the successful completion of course(s) which the instructor is teaching by providing outreach, guidance, feedback, supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other approved forms of academic support.
- Maintain adequate and timely student records (e.g., grades are posted in the LMS in a timely fashion). Evaluate and report students' progress and attendance in a timely manner.
- Work as a team member with other faculty and staff to facilitate College and academic program operations and achieve goals and objectives. Provide guidance to new and adjunct faculty as assigned.
- Assist in attaining and maintaining program accreditation.
- Complete the New Faculty Development Program (NFDP) during the one-year probationary period to ensure understanding of the College's mission and preparation to instruct students with various learning styles and academic needs. Complete the Instructional Design Technology Certificate or demonstrate mastery of its competencies.
- Continues professional development/growth and a commitment to continuous improvement as an instructor. Remains current within his/her academic field/discipline.
- Participate in departmental/campus/College meetings and serve on campus or collegewide committees. Participate in advisory committee meetings and other college and student-related activities. Advise student clubs and organizations as assigned.
- Participate in developing and implementing college policies, objectives, and/or functions in accordance with the philosophy of the College. Areas include, but are not limited to: departmental program planning, marketing, budget development, and public relations.
- Assist in providing support for operations/events/processes to enhance recruitment, enrollment/registration, advisement, transfer, and graduate employment, as assigned.
- Participate in day, evening, and weekend program staffing, as requested.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Four (4) years of relevant work experience in nursing. Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Delaware or compact state at time of application and during employment in this position.
Ability to use senses: Visual acuity with corrective lenses to identify color changes in skin, respiratory movements in clients, read fine print/writing on physicians' orders, monitors, equipment calibrations, measure medications in syringes, IVs, etc. Hearing ability with auditory aides to hear monitor alarms, emergency signals, call bells, telephone orders; to hear blood pressure, heart, lung, and abdominal sounds with a stethoscope; to understand a normal speaking voice without viewing the speaker's face. Motor Ability: Physical ability to walk long distances, to stand for prolonged periods, to lift, move, and transfer patients, equipment of 50 lbs. or more, to maneuver in limited space, to perform CPR, to provide routine and emergency patient care, to have manual dexterity and feeling ability.
