POSITION SUMMARY
Provide essential assistance with scheduled medications to residents in compliance with state regulations and community standards. Deliver personalized care and services to residents, ensuring adherence to community core values, procedures, and safeguarding residents' rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are typical for this role. This list is not exhaustive, and additional responsibilities may be assigned.
- Adhere to the six 'rights' of medication administration (right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, right record/documentation) consistently during medication assistance. Verify each of the six 'rights' at three critical points:
- When retrieving the medication from storage
- Just before administering the medication
- Immediately after administering the medication
- Assist residents with their medications according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR), ensuring no errors are present, while upholding the community's philosophy and maintaining resident privacy.
- Accurately document on the Medication Observation Record (MOR) after any medication is administered, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, or returned.
- Communicate effectively with team members regarding resident information in accordance with community policies and procedures.
- Report any changes in a resident's condition or behavior, adverse reactions to medications, resident concerns, or any errors noted on the Medication Observation Record (MOR) to the Nurse promptly.
- Immediately report any medication errors honestly.
- Maintain an organized and clean medication cart/cabinet, restocking as necessary.
- Be responsible for a designated group of residents during the shift, ensuring awareness of their locations and conducting physical checks as assigned.
- Observe, report, and document changes in residents' conditions, including skin, behavior, alertness, weight, dietary habits, and participation in activities.
- Respond promptly to security systems and resident call bells.
- Notify the supervisor or Director of Nursing if a resident's care needs increase.
- Assist with continence management and ensure proper disposal of all continence products to maintain sanitation in resident suites and community restrooms.
- Serve and collect food trays, assisting as needed, and report any refusals of meals or loss of appetite.
- Ensure cleanliness in residents' rooms and work areas.
- Practice good hygiene and health standards consistently.
- Support residents in maintaining independence while promoting their dignity and physical safety.
- Actively engage residents in activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, ambulation, transferring, eating) as directed.
- Encourage residents' participation in life skills and enrichment activities.
- Greet and assist all customers, guests, family members, residents, vendors, and team members courteously.
- Perform resident laundry as assigned.
- Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings within the community.
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
To succeed in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Educational Requirements and Experience:
- Certified Nurse's Aide certification is preferred.
- Successful completion of the 6-hour Medication Technician course, with updates as required by law.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Previous experience working with seniors is preferred.
