Instructors are responsible for delivering pre-college and college-level courses to both transfer and professional-technical students. They play a vital role in enhancing the department's initiatives aimed at improving student retention and success rates.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's degree in English, Composition Studies, Rhetoric, Literature, or Creative Writing.
  • Proven experience in teaching English and composition at the college or pre-college level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, learning management systems, and relevant instructional technology.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in relation to teaching, student support, and curriculum development.
  • Pedagogical approaches in English and Composition for a diverse range of student preparedness.
SKILLS IN:
  • Creating an environment of equity and belonging through cultural awareness and responsiveness.
  • Inspiring enthusiasm and engagement in the instruction of English and composition at both pre-college and college levels.
  • Experience in teaching and developing online coursework, utilizing emerging technologies effectively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with individuals at all levels within and outside the institution.
  • Ability to adapt to various teaching scenarios with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Employment Conditions

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The College operates in a mixed format (both in-person and online instruction), with some assignments potentially being fully online based on program requirements. For remote instruction, faculty must provide their own workspace and internet access, while the College will supply necessary technical equipment and support. In-person instruction typically occurs in a classroom or office setting, requiring standing or sitting for extended periods. Faculty often utilize computers and media equipment in their work environment.

EMPLOYMENT TERM/SALARY:
This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter position. Salary is contingent upon the number of contact hours for this role as outlined in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. The hiring process for this position is subject to available funding as determined by the College President.
