Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research IT Sr. Systems Engineer to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a key member of our Cloud and Virtualization Services team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining public, hybrid, and private cloud solutions for research IT.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with research customers to develop, implement, and optimize cloud-based research solutions, ensuring peak performance, reproducibility, scalability, cost efficiency, redundancy, disaster tolerance, and high security.
  • Work with peers in IT@JH and national and international peers on projects that advance research technology locally and globally.
  • Proactively monitor existing on-premises research infrastructure, offer solutions that improve customer experience and workload efficiencies, promote security, and troubleshoot and remediate issues that may arise.
  • Develop and maintain secure solutions for sensitive data, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Stay current on emerging research technologies and mentor less experienced staff on the team who will deploy and maintain research cloud and hybrid technologies.
  • Engage with clients via tickets, email, direct communication channels, and periodic meetings, ensuring timely responses and correctly set customer expectations.
  • Participate in our scrum process, tracking work in process, updating JIRA tickets regularly, and peer validating the work of others, participate in weekly planning meetings and technical help sessions, ensuring understanding of work.
  • Diagnose cloud and application performance issues and perform root-cause analysis, handling incident and change management using ServiceNow.
  • Use Git effectively, track work in branches, submit pull requests for completed work, and maintain awareness of open branches to ensure clean merges and safe execution of changes.
  • Continuously improve our services and create tutorials and videos to assist our customers and enhance the customer experience.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Six years related experience (Direct programming experience while pursuing education may count towards related experience. Significant undergraduate programming coursework or independent project can be considered as related experience.)
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with specific platform, devices, and software listed above on this supplement.
  • Advanced experience with public and private cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
