Position Overview

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is seeking a skilled Maritime Safety Specialist to enhance our maritime navigation databases and ensure the dissemination of critical navigational data.

Key Responsibilities

As a Maritime Safety Specialist, your primary duties will include:

  • Collecting, analyzing, and consolidating maritime safety information to support navigation.
  • Updating and maintaining maritime navigation databases.
  • Issuing global navigational warnings and ensuring the quality of maritime products.
  • Generating mission-specific datasets and addressing inquiries from both national and international clients.

Your work will play a vital role in fulfilling NGA's obligations under U.S. Code Title 10 and various federal and international regulations, contributing to national security and maritime safety.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate:

  • Experience in voyage planning or vessel piloting.
  • Proficiency in maritime navigation methods, including celestial, visual, radar, and electronic.
  • Familiarity with Digital Nautical Charts (DNC), Electronic Navigation Charts (ENC), and other maritime navigation products.
Educational Background

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited maritime academy or a related field is required, along with successful completion of U.S. Merchant Marine Third Mate's License requirements.
