This role involves performing advanced customer service and regulatory compliance tasks related to licensing and permitting. The specialist will oversee the collection and evaluation of license and permit applications, ensuring adherence to relevant policies, administrative codes, and state regulations. The position requires effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as the authority to approve licenses and permits.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the intake and assessment of license and permit applications, including revisions and renewals; verify the accuracy and completeness of submitted data and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Address inquiries from the public regarding licensing laws and procedures, providing administrative and technical support as needed.
- Process applications, administer driving tests, and collect necessary fees, including providing assistance to non-English speaking applicants.
- Evaluate the legal requirements for applicants seeking driver licenses and identification cards, advising on any suspensions or revocations.
- Facilitate training programs for staff, including conducting investigations and providing on-the-job training.
- Coordinate work schedules, approve leave requests, and maintain accurate records and bookkeeping.
- Provide essential information to field offices regarding various licensing processes.
- Conduct confidential investigations into potential violations and assess applications for restricted licenses.
- Recommend actions for drivers needing improvement and oversee driver safety initiatives.
- Inspect and validate documentation related to license applications and accurately enter data into state systems.
- Interpret national driver records to assess eligibility for licenses.
- Prepare financial reports related to collected fees and issued licenses, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Document observations of individuals of interest to law enforcement as necessary.
- Represent the department in administrative hearings and provide testimony as required.
- Assess applicants during road tests, scoring their performance and communicating results.
- Monitor physical and mental capabilities of applicants, referring to medical boards when necessary.
- Participate in selection boards and assist with applicant evaluations.
- Supervise and assign tasks to team members as needed.
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to agency policies regarding work hours.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; a two-year college degree is preferred.
Experience: At least two years of experience in customer service, administrative support, or related fields, with knowledge of driver licensing laws.
Licensure: A valid driver license is mandatory; specific certifications may be required.
Knowledge: Familiarity with state and federal regulations, supervisory principles, and effective communication strategies.
Skills: Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.
