Master Shipyard Mechanic

The Outside Machinist will be responsible for performing mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation activities on marine vessels within the shipyard environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct mechanical maintenance and repair tasks on marine propulsion systems, including engines, turbines, pumps, valves, and auxiliary machinery.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals to determine maintenance requirements, specifications, and procedures.
- Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical components and systems, ensuring proper functionality and alignment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues, diagnose malfunctions, and implement corrective actions to restore equipment to operational status.
- Perform precision machining operations, such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding, to fabricate or repair mechanical parts as needed.
- Align and adjust mechanical components and systems, including shafts, couplings, bearings, and gears, to ensure proper operation and performance.
- Test mechanical systems and equipment using diagnostic tools and instruments to verify functionality and compliance with specifications.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Previous experience as an outside machinist or mechanical technician in a shipyard or maritime environment.
- Knowledge of marine propulsion systems, machinery, and equipment, including diesel engines, turbines, pumps, valves, and hydraulics.
- Proficiency in mechanical maintenance and repair techniques, including disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and alignment of mechanical components.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy materials and work in various positions, including standing, kneeling, and bending.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
The estimated annual salary for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 depending on experience. Talent Source offers a competitive compensation package and benefits.
