Job Summary:

The Fire Alarm Apprentice will assist the Fire Alarm Superintendent in the installation of fire alarm systems. This role is ideal for individuals who are eager to learn and develop their skills in the fire alarm industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the installation of fire alarm systems, including conduit, low voltage wiring, control panels, and other equipment.
  • Keep tools and equipment in good working condition and ensure they are readily available on the job site.
  • Participate in cleaning the job site, tools, and equipment.
  • Transport equipment, such as ladders, tools, and replacement parts, from the vehicle or laydown area to the required location.
  • Develop a working knowledge of fire alarm and special hazards installation under the guidance of experienced professionals.
  • Study and become familiar with NFPA 72 and NEC 70 to advance and become a Fire Alarm Technician.
  • Understand and adhere to SFS's Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in weekly Toolbox talks and maintain awareness of safety documentation on each project.
Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 0 years of experience in the Fire Life Safety Industry, specifically in Fire Alarm, is required.
  • 1+ years of professional computer skills are necessary.
  • The ability to learn and develop tactful skills to advance to a Fire Alarm & Security Technician is desired.
  • Compliance with SFS's Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements is mandatory.
  • Efficient time management skills, developed organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize initiatives and business goals are essential.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees are required.
  • Strong diligence and accuracy are necessary.
Communication Skills:
  • The ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers is required.
Other Qualifications:
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Compliance with SFS's Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements is mandatory.
  • The ability to travel 90% of the time, locally, is necessary.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift 50lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.

Work Environment:

Employees will regularly be required to work outside, and be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Employees will occasionally be required to work indoors in an office setting, work alone and with others. Employees must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies while visiting locations.
