Position Overview
Fairview Health Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nursing Assistant to support our Medical Surgical Oncology department. This unit specializes in the care of adult patients facing various medical and surgical challenges, particularly in oncology.
Employment Details
This role is a .6 FTE position, requiring 48 hours within a two-week pay period. The schedule includes 12-hour shifts, with a rotation every third weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) during the night shift (7 PM - 7:30 AM).
Compensation and Benefits
A night shift differential of $3.00 per hour is provided. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental coverage, paid time off, retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, and a student loan repayment program.
Key Responsibilities
The Nursing Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting professional nurses in delivering patient care. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with personal care tasks such as grooming, bathing, and feeding.
- Providing skin care, including dressing changes and applying ointments.
- Conducting oral hygiene and specimen collection.
- Helping with patient positioning and ambulation.
- Changing linens and responding promptly to call lights.
Additionally, the Nursing Assistant will:
- Monitor patient conditions by accurately recording vital signs and reporting any unusual findings to the registered nurse.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring that patients and their families are oriented to the environment.
- Transport patients and equipment as needed, ensuring timely arrivals for appointments.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient rooms and equipment, including ordering and stocking supplies.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet one of the following:
- Completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a healthcare setting.
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one clinical rotation.
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification is required, with OnTrack participants needing to obtain this certification upon completion of the program.
