Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly qualified Collegiate Assistant Professor in Meteorology to join our department at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. This is a full-time, 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2025.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate courses in meteorology, including weather analysis and forecasting, mesoscale meteorology, and atmospheric remote sensing.
  • Develop and maintain a research program that engages pedagogy and/or involves undergraduate or graduate students.
  • Contribute to the department's service mission, including opportunities for professional service, consulting, and outreach efforts.
  • Participate in departmental and university-wide initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Geography, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely related discipline from an accredited university by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in developing and teaching courses in weather analysis and forecasting, and in the candidate's specific area of expertise.
  • Strong focus on students and knowledge of practices and procedures that impact student success.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles outlined in Virginia Tech's Principles of Community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the university level.
  • Demonstrated record of teaching or mentoring experience in inclusive pedagogy practices that address the needs of underrepresented and/or underserved communities.
