Construction Estimator

As a Construction Estimator at Flatiron Construction, you will play a crucial role in preparing estimates for assigned construction disciplines. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze specifications and contract plans to determine cost-efficient quantities and construction practices that align with pursuit, schedule, and price goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
Incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, and other relevant sources into unit and person-hour figures.
Provide technical input regarding project and contract risks to the lead estimator responsible for final bid price approval.
Review the final estimate to ensure that the defined work aligns with the overall project schedule and cost goals.
Prepare discipline estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work and calculating material quantity requirements from engineering drawing dimensions.
Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Perform additional assignments as directed by management.
Monitor client addendums and advise the estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
Assist with design review options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
Partner with the estimating team to prepare and conduct project hand-off meetings between the pursuit team and project management team.
Research and recommend vendors and subcontractors for designated scopes of work to achieve pursuit and cost goals.
Maintain knowledge of the Company's values and strategic plan.
Support published corporate policies.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
5+ years of experience in the construction industry, estimating, or cost control is preferred.
Knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software is required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for clear and effective support, research, recommendations, and pricing are essential.
Strong technical writing skills are required.
Time management and strong prioritization skills to meet tight turnaround and bid deadlines are necessary.
Growing knowledge of alternative construction delivery methods is beneficial.
