Job Summary

Geisinger Health System is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in an ambulatory care setting. As a Certified Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and document patient information, including reason for visit, weight, vital signs, and medication review.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms between cases.
  • Assist patients as needed to prepare for visits with providers, ensuring their safety and privacy.
  • Provide direct patient care as directed by providers, including performing EKGs, wound dressings, and supporting minor surgical procedures.
  • Administer medications according to policy and procedure, after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency.
  • Complete patient tests and treatments per provider's order, according to policy and procedure.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and complete associated paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform phlebotomy and assist in specific laboratory functions, as educated and overseen by the laboratory.
  • Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care and clinic functioning, including matching and filing ancillary department reports.
  • Document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
  • Use the electronic medical record and scheduling system as designated.
  • Facilitate timely appointments for patients, complete referrals and pre-authorizations as needed, and collect co-payments.
  • Assist with orientation of new personnel, under the direction of the provider and/or site lead.
  • Execute and document ongoing patient communication, prioritize communications to the provider, respond to patient questions and requests, and reinforce patient education as directed by the provider.
  • May inventory medical/surgical supplies and pharmaceuticals, verify expiration dates, document utilization, and optimize organizational efficiency and space utilization.
  • May have access to non-controlled medication storage/supply areas and transport non-controlled medications as necessary.
  • Prepare and clean instruments, follow protocols for sterilization and disinfection, and clean/examine rooms between patients using established infection prevention protocols.
  • Follow hand hygiene and appropriate infection prevention precautions.
  • Routinely inspect/observe condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identify need for preventive and/or corrective maintenance.
  • Responsible for actively participating in patient safety and quality improvement program.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program (Preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year-Related work experience (Preferred).
  • Certification(s) and License(s): Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months, Certified Medical Assistant.
