Job Summary

Geisinger Health System is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant Float to join our team. As a key member of our ambulatory care team, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to our healthcare providers.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient information, including reason for visit, weight, vital signs, and medication review.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms between cases.
  • Assist patients with preparation for visits with providers, ensuring their safety and privacy.
  • Provide direct patient care as directed by providers, including performing EKGs, wound dressings, and supporting minor surgical procedures.
  • Administer medications according to policy and procedure after validation of knowledge and demonstration of competency.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, completing associated paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform phlebotomy and assist with laboratory functions relative to testing, reporting, and quality assurance of laboratory specimens.
  • Support patient care and functioning of the clinic through receptionist and clerical duties, including matching and filing ancillary department reports and consultation and medical reports in patients' medical records.
  • Document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
  • Use the electronic medical record and scheduling system to timely appointments for patients, complete referrals and pre-authorizations as needed, and collect co-payments.
  • Assist with orientation of new personnel under the direction of the provider and/or site lead.
  • Execute and document ongoing patient communication, prioritize communications to the provider, respond to patient questions and requests to ensure efficient use of provider time and timely response to patient needs.
  • Reinforce patient education as directed by the provider to support patient's understanding of instructions.
  • Inventory medical/surgical supplies and pharmaceuticals non-controlled substances only to ensure adequate supply levels, verify expiration dates, document utilization, optimize organizational efficiency and space.
  • Prepare and clean instruments, follow protocols for sterilization and disinfection, including high-level disinfection of instruments and equipment, and clean/set up examination rooms between patients using established infection prevention protocols.
  • Follow hand hygiene and appropriate infection prevention precautions.
  • Routinely inspect/observe condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identify need for preventive and/or corrective maintenance.
  • Responsible for actively participating in patient safety and quality improvement program.
Requirements
  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing.
  • Minimum of 1 year-Nursing experience preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months.
