The Chief Engineer role plays a crucial part in achieving this goal by overseeing all activities and staff related to maintenance and repair. With a strong focus on flexibility and teamwork, the ideal candidate must be willing to perform all duties assigned.

Salary Range: $77.95 per hour

The salary listed reflects the competitive compensation package offered for this position. An individual's offer will be tailored based on their education, experience, skills, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Benefits Package:

This is a union position, entitling the selected candidate to comprehensive benefits in accordance with Local 39 CBA.

About the Role
  • Supervise and maintain operational performance of mechanical, electrical, and craft services.
  • Oversee efficient operation of facility equipment and systems.
  • Develop operating instructions and procedures for equipment and systems.
  • Promote reliable system performance with zero downtime.
  • Prepare operating budgets relative to the Engineering Department.
  • Implement training programs for operating facility equipment and systems.
  • Evaluate equipment and systems operationally and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Monitor and supervise subcontracted jobs when necessary.
  • Implement energy conservation and management programs.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Establish a program for acquisition, storage, and accountability of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain a work order system for controlling and assigning on-call services.
  • Allocate work responsibilities among subordinates effectively.
  • Establish performance standards and adhere to quality levels.
  • Carry out policies and procedures regarding safety, administrative requirements, and work methods.
  • Perform additional duties as required within contractual limitations.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years' experience in implementing the above-mentioned tasks.
  • Progressive operations experience preferred, commensurate with the specific facility for the position of Chief Engineer.
  • Prior experience managing operations at large portfolios of buildings.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, UPS, and emergency power systems.
  • Experience in work planning, scheduling, and managing a group of Stationary Engineers.
  • Highest-level relevant state/local license for Stationary Engineer and/or HVAC, plus universal level refrigerant recovery license.
  • Preferred certifications include High-rise Fire Safety Director, Haz-Mat Certification, Indoor Air Quality Certification, LEED Certification.
  • Certification meeting OSHA ACM awareness training requirements.
  • Working knowledge of energy conservation required, formal training preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Employee relation skills, coaching, and training skills are essential.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Computer skills and building automation systems experience are required.
