Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse II to join our team in the Psych department at the University of New Mexico. This is a per diem position, and the ideal candidate will have a strong background in psychiatric nursing and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients, working within the nursing process to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, incorporating age-specific considerations and discharge planning.
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights, and document and communicate clinical findings.
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent has been obtained.
  • Participate in orientation and assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • 2 years of directly related experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuer certification within 30 days.
  • RN licensure in New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nationally Certified in area of specialty.
  • PALS certification.
  • TNCC and/or ENPC certification.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to biohazardous materials and chemicals. The ideal candidate will be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
