Position Overview:
The Configuration Management Specialist is tasked with the technical and procedural oversight of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and its integration with various organizational functions. This role is pivotal in delivering Configuration Management services, guided by the Configuration Management Manager and supported by our Configuration Management Consultant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize discovery and asset management tools, including ServiceNow ITOM and ITSM modules, while leveraging knowledge of the ServiceNow platform for effective infrastructure discovery.
- Maintain and enhance the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), demonstrating proficiency in UI scripting, business rules, normalization, and workflow development.
- Customize and configure the platform to align with specific business requirements, ensuring seamless integration with existing workflows.
- Execute processes for Configuration Item (CI) discovery and population, ensuring precise mapping of CI relationships and resolving any discrepancies.
- Conduct operational activities in accordance with established Configuration Management policies and procedures.
- Address Configuration Management Service Requests as assigned and engage in strategic projects to meet required functionalities within set timelines.
- Identify and report instances of non-compliance and conduct Configuration Management audits as directed.
- Seek out opportunities for service improvement and contribute to the growth and maturity of the CMDB.
- Collaborate with the IT Asset Management team to recommend process and technology enhancements for automation.
- Ensure that all assets under IT control are accurately identified, cataloged, and tracked throughout their lifecycle.
- Develop and communicate enterprise metrics related to the CMDB.
Required Skills:
Proficiency in CMDB, Discovery Tools, ServiceNow ITSM, and ServiceNow Development.
Additional Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have experience in establishing effective configuration life cycles and possess a detail-oriented mindset while maintaining a broader perspective. Candidates should be capable of generating and reviewing reports to monitor compliance with processes related to the CMDB. While not mandatory, certifications such as ITIL, COBIT, or IAITAM are advantageous. A degree in Computer Science, IT, engineering, Cybersecurity, SecOps, or a related field, or equivalent experience is preferred. A collaborative team player who is a self-starter and requires minimal supervision is essential. Strong communication skills are necessary to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
