About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Fiber Network Engineer to join our team at Comcast. As a key member of our Core Network Engineering team, you will be responsible for planning and engineering of backbone and metro routing and switching networks, backbone and network transport and optical networks, backbone fiber, network security, certification labs and architecture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage relationships with fiber vendors and maintain up-to-date information on their business health, pricing, available assets, maps, fiber characteristics, and future builds.
  • Track and advise on macro trends in the fiber industry and on the direction of Comcast's competitors.
  • Cultivate relationships with the Divisions' planning and construction teams and regularly exchange information on national and division projects that could benefit one another.
  • Maintain and evolve the fiber inventory database, understanding and maintaining detailed fiber information, vendor information, billing records, contract terms, riser/cross connects, DLRs and transport information.
  • Develop and maintain a tools-based strategy for centralization and automation of fiber-related information, working closely with the tools team on requirements and development plans.
  • Evaluate Sales requests that have diversity or latency requirements that potentially involve design changes or new path acquisitions.
  • Lead or participate in matrixed teams and serve as fiber expert with adjacent product and engineering teams to ensure smooth planning and execution of projects with a fiber component.
  • Timely identify and acquire fiber for new projects, coordinating with transport engineers, procurement, legal, and finance resources.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in fiber network engineering, with a strong understanding of fiber networks, transport/optical networks, and fiber vendors.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a matrixed team environment.
