About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our Comcast Network and Connectivity team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing Comcast's backbone fiber portfolio and serving as the primary fiber subject-matter expert for national network programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead commercial and technical strategy for fiber planning and acquisition
  • Manage relationships with fiber vendors and maintain up-to-date information on their business health, pricing, available assets, maps, fiber characteristics, and future builds
  • Track and advise on macro trends in the fiber industry and on the direction of Comcast's competitors
  • Cultivate relationships with the Divisions' planning and construction teams and regularly exchange information on national and division projects that could benefit one another
  • Maintain and evolve the fiber inventory database, understanding and maintaining detailed fiber information, vendor information, billing records, contract terms, riser/cross connects, DLRs, and transport information
  • Develop and maintain a tools-based strategy for centralization and automation of fiber-related information
  • Evaluate Sales requests that have diversity or latency requirements that potentially involve design changes or new path acquisitions
  • Lead or participate in matrixed teams and serve as fiber expert with adjacent product and engineering teams to ensure smooth planning and execution of projects with a fiber component
Requirements
  • Knowledge of fiber networks and fiber types
  • Knowledge of transport/optical networks and how they interact with fiber
  • Knowledge of fiber vendors and their assets
  • Procurement of fiber assets including knowledge of purchasing models (IRUs, leases) and fiber construction
