Locations: Remote work is preferred, ideally within the USA.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Executive Vice President of the Berry Operating System (BOS), who in turn reports to the CEO.
Role & Responsibilities:
The Senior Vice President of Operational Excellence will spearhead the development of the Berry Operating System, transitioning Berry Global from a Continuous Improvement focus to a more comprehensive Lean and Six Sigma methodology. This role acts as a catalyst for change, driving process enhancements aimed at increasing business value and optimizing performance. Key initiatives include:
- Developing a strategic Road Map grounded in proven Lean methodologies.
- Creating educational tools for Lean practices tailored for adult learners.
- Sequentially implementing Lean and Six Sigma strategies in alignment with the established Road Map.
In this capacity, the Senior Vice President is expected to collaborate with cross-functional business leaders to achieve annual savings of 4% to 6%. Responsibilities also include establishing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure alignment with company and customer strategies, requirements, and policies. Additionally, the role involves identifying and standardizing best practices to minimize variation and waste while enhancing safety, quality, and service.
This hands-on manufacturing leader will promote sustainable change, ensuring the longevity of Lean initiatives through a governance process that adapts and updates process improvements over time. Ongoing accountability for measuring outcomes and reporting on KPIs is essential. To enhance overall performance, the BOS will educate global stakeholders on key differentiators in Lean and Six Sigma, enabling the organization to effectively communicate Berry's approach to Operational Excellence.
The ultimate goal is to build and lead a global Lean and Six Sigma team equipped with the necessary leadership skills and capabilities to fulfill the mission through cross-functional collaboration and effective influence, driving change and delivering improved results. The role will also involve structuring the organization to support transformation and ongoing activities, providing transformational leadership, and maintaining responsibility for operational excellence across Berry Global's footprint, thereby securing a competitive advantage.
Responsibilities of the BOS Office include:
- Defining and developing a Center of Excellence (COE) organization, implementing a new organizational structure, and creating standardized manufacturing and quality improvement KPIs.
- Translating financial targets into actionable operational priorities to achieve P&L, cash flow, and investment ratio goals.
- Conducting operational audits to assess manufacturing efficiency and quality levels.
- Identifying opportunities to optimize the current manufacturing and logistics footprint.
- Setting direction and priorities for the global enterprise while enhancing systematic approaches to drive sustainable results.
- Establishing governance and ensuring effective management practices across the enterprise.
- Developing additional management practices, skills, and tools as required.
- Supporting the enterprise in applying operating model methodologies through training and coaching.
- Benchmarking with other organizations to identify best practices in operating model design and execution.
- Enhancing Lean skills within the organization through training and development opportunities.
- Implementing the Operating Model in newly acquired companies, including management oversight and staffing support.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly manage a team of five to six Operations and Lean practitioners while indirectly overseeing manufacturing, quality, and Lean leaders across the enterprise.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience in multiple senior-level operational roles with P&L responsibility in global manufacturing settings.
- Proven Lean training and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in leading global Lean transformations.
- Strong track record of improving KPIs through Lean principles.
- Proficient in Lean tools such as Daily Management, Standard Work, SMED, TPM, Kanban, and Kaizen.
- Exemplary leadership style complemented by a collaborative approach and strong interpersonal skills.
