Overview

Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine operates a veterinary teaching clinic within Worcester Technical High School, providing primary and preventive care to underserved pets in greater Worcester. The clinic offers experiential learning opportunities for Tufts' 4th year veterinary students and the veterinary technician assisting students.

Job Description

This cross-trained role combines veterinary assistant/receptionist responsibilities, focusing on providing high-quality nursing care in a team-oriented environment while supporting students in technical and animal handling practices. The position also entails front desk operations and student direction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform veterinary technical support, monitoring, and treatment of medicine and surgical primary care cases, including patient restraint, venipuncture, anesthesia monitoring, dental cleaning, radiology, bench-top diagnostics, and medical records entries.
  • Using a teach-by-doing model, perform client support functions such as reception, phone triage, client check-in/out, billing, and cash handling.
  • Ensure the clinic is fully stocked, clean, and orderly, completing inventory management and ordering tasks, as well as maintaining clinic equipment.
Requirements

This position requires knowledge and experience typically acquired through two years of related experience, AVA or licensure eligibility, solid office computer skills, and a strong technical background. Additionally, candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation, and undergo a CORI background check.

Compensation

The estimated salary range for this position is between $19.20 and $25.40, based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity.
