Job Description

Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Admissions Specialist to join our team at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

This role is responsible for coordinating patient admissions, ensuring accurate demographic and financial data entry, and maintaining confidentiality. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of insurance regulations, and experience with ICD-10 CM and CPT coding.

The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a high level of accuracy in their work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate patient admissions, verify demographic and financial information, and ensure accurate data entry.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
  • Work closely with insurance companies to obtain pre-authorizations and process claims.
  • Use ICD-10 CM and CPT coding systems to accurately assign codes for patient stays.
  • Pre-register patients for scheduled admissions and outpatient services, verifying prior authorization and physician referrals as needed.
  • Review and correct patient charts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Answer multi-line department telephone, transferring calls and relaying messages as needed.
  • Operate public address system, provide instructions to visitors and patients, and maintain departmental equipment.
  • Log patient valuables in and out of the hospital safe, handling cash and credit transactions with care.
  • Participate in educational programs and inservice meetings, staying up-to-date on hospital policies and procedures.
  • Rotates holidays and fills in on weekends, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two or three years of experience in patient registration, preferably with ICD-10 CM and CPT coding experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stand for long periods, and navigate through the hospital safely.

Estimated Salary: $45,000 - $60,000 per year, based on location and experience.
