Animal Care Specialist

The Veterinary Medicine and Surgery division is dedicated to supporting MD Anderson's research initiatives. Our foremost goal is to deliver exceptional veterinary services, facilities, and care in alignment with all relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and the standards set by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).
Veterinary Medicine & Surgery Overview
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Equipment Maintenance & Hygiene
- Conducts thorough washing, sanitizing, sterilization, and quality assurance evaluations in accordance with established protocols.
- Disassembles and reassembles equipment as necessary for effective sanitation.
- Executes flushing procedures for automated water system manifolds utilizing the designated flushing station.
- Performs flushing on recoil hoses using the appropriate flushing equipment.
- Collects and disposes of soiled equipment and trash on a daily basis.
- Monitors the functionality of cage washing equipment and promptly reports any issues to the team leader or supervisor.
Record Keeping
- Documents relevant information in the logbook or electronic task management system.
Facility Maintenance and Cleaning
- Ensures daily cleanliness of washrooms.
- Maintains washroom equipment and performs routine cleaning and upkeep per manufacturer guidelines.
- Completes additional cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Conducts basic housekeeping duties in designated and surrounding areas.
- Restocks supplies in specified locations.
- Undertakes other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Required: None.
