Job Summary

UTMB Health is seeking a highly skilled Staff Psychiatrist Inpatient Specialist to provide direct psychiatric care to offenders assigned to inpatient facilities within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, participating in civil commitment proceedings, and conducting psychiatric, physical, and neurological examinations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct psychiatric care to assigned patients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
  • Participate in civil commitment proceedings for mentally ill patients being released from TDCJ
  • Conduct psychiatric, physical, and neurological examinations on assigned patients
  • Provide clinical supervision to psychiatric mid-level practitioners as assigned by the clinical director
  • Participate in due process proceedings for voluntary admission and compelled psychoactive medication
  • Work effectively with all CMS and UR processes and personnel
  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure established for the department
Requirements
  • Must hold a current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners
  • Eligible for Board Certification in Psychiatry
  • Must hold a current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration
  • Two (2) years of experience in psychiatry
