Carpenter I Job Description

At Fairfax County Public Schools, we are seeking a skilled Carpenter I to join our Facilities Management team. As a Carpenter I, you will perform skilled journey-level work required to construct, maintain, and formulate finished and rough carpentry repairs internal or external to a structure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Construct, maintain, and repair structures using carpentry equipment, materials, and tools.
  • Read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
  • Estimate time and material needs, determine when the repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations.
  • Work safely and follow local, state, and national codes.
Requirements:
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • One (1) year of experience in carpentry at the apprentice II or equivalent level.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program.
Salary and Benefits:

$48,693 - $82,194 per year, with a 260-day contract and biweekly pay frequency.
