Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Part-time Librarian to join our team at the County of Chester. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, assisting patrons with research and information needs, and contributing to the development and maintenance of our library collections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide reference and research assistance to patrons, utilizing a variety of resources and technologies.
  • Assist with collection development and maintenance, including selecting materials for purchase and creating displays and recommended reading lists.
  • Plan, produce, and promote library programs, including presentations and outreach activities.
  • Participate in community outreach and engagement efforts, promoting the library's services and resources to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve library goals and objectives, including contributing to the development of library policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned, including participating in training and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Library or Information Science, or ability to attain one within 1 year.
  • Working knowledge of the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to View Statement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service and community engagement.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with library software and systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of job-related library experience.
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited college or university in Library or Information Science.
  • Familiarity with the principles and practices of public library service.
  • Knowledge of the use of review sources and ability to evaluate and recommend materials for purchase.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to speak in public and engage with diverse audiences.
