Position Overview

The Buyer/Planner for Materials is responsible for the strategic quoting, planning, prioritizing, and coordination of outsourced component purchases and deliveries. This role requires a solid understanding of financial principles and manufacturing processes to facilitate effective negotiations and manage supplier relationships. The successful candidate will also address and resolve quality concerns with our suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components.
  • Expedite orders as necessary to meet fluctuating customer demands or supplier delays.
  • Oversee demand planning within the ERP system.
  • Maintain precise data in the ERP system, including item setup, lead times, and ordering policies.
  • Collaborate with the Commodity Manager on pricing adjustments and system updates.
  • Communicate planning updates to relevant stakeholders, including schedulers and suppliers.
  • Resolve discrepancies related to purchase orders, deliveries, invoices, and stock levels, implementing corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

A Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of five years of experience in purchasing and planning is required. Certification from a professional organization such as ISM or ASCM is preferred. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is advantageous.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Experience in purchasing materials such as resins, polymers, and elastomers is preferred. A strong understanding of MRP, BOM, and demand planning is essential. The candidate should excel in a matrix environment and collaborate effectively across various teams. A proactive, self-motivated individual who embraces feedback and can navigate ambiguity is ideal. A strong sense of urgency and integrity is crucial for managing stakeholder relationships.
