Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures: Responsible for executing and documenting all diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures using appropriate technical parameters to ensure high-quality imaging studies.
    • Manage outpatient and inpatient schedules, including nuclear cardiology and mobile PET, and order necessary radiopharmaceuticals for procedures.
    • Maintain comprehensive patient records and gather relevant medical history and clinical data.
    • Perform venipuncture in accordance with departmental guidelines and administer radiopharmaceuticals as prescribed, adhering to established dose ranges.
    • Handle computer processing for various procedures, including cardiac, SPECT, and renal imaging.
    • Ensure accurate exam charges and timing are recorded within the HIS/RIS Computer System.
    • Verify physician orders and ensure all documents sent to PACS are correct for radiologist review.
    • Position patients and adjust equipment to obtain quality images based on patient anatomy and condition.
    • Utilize two forms of identification to confirm patient identity prior to procedures, following established protocols.
    • Monitor patients during scans and communicate effectively to ensure their comfort and cooperation, providing updates on any delays.
    • Measure and document radioactive dosages using a dose calibrator.
  • Safety Standards Compliance: Uphold all safety standards to ensure patient and staff safety during procedures.
    • Maintain compliance with established safety protocols at all times.
    • Verify orders as per established protocols.
    • Ensure accuracy in exams performed and requisitions.
    • Perform clerical duties, including maintaining patient records and scheduling examinations.
    • Safely operate Nuclear Medicine equipment as required.
    • Keep necessary records for compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Maintain cleanliness and adequate supplies in the Nuclear Medicine department.
    • Adhere to infection control policies and proper hygiene practices.
    • Always use gloves when handling patients and radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Quality Control Coordination: Oversee quality control measures within the department.
    • Manage patient flow in accordance with departmental procedures.
    • Review images to ensure optimal quality and correct labeling.
    • Ensure timely completion of exams, particularly STAT exams.
    • Prepare the nuclear medicine suite for procedures and maintain equipment and supplies.
    • Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant policies and procedures.
    • Provide radiation protection to patients and staff, following ALARA guidelines.
    • Wear monitoring devices to track radiation exposure.
    • Follow guidelines for pregnancy and breastfeeding verification for applicable patients.
  • Equipment Operation: Ensure proper functioning of all Nuclear Medicine equipment.
    • Report any equipment or operational issues promptly.
    • Conduct regular surveys for radiation protection.
    • Perform daily quality control tests on Nuclear Medicine equipment.
    • Assist in documenting quality assurance information.
  • Professional Standards: Maintain a high level of professionalism in all interactions.
    • Adhere to departmental guidelines regarding appearance and conduct.
    • Maintain a positive demeanor and effective communication with colleagues and supervisors.
    • Participate in emergency call rotations as required.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited AMA School of Nuclear Medicine; new graduates are welcome.
  • Strong oral and communication skills are essential.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with HIS and RIS systems; proficient computer skills.
  • Must possess an IEMA license in Medical Radiation Technology and be CPR certified within 30 days of hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work rotating shifts and take call as needed.
  • Must be capable of making independent decisions related to patient care.
  • Frequent movement of patients, including lifting and bending, is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; use of patient handling equipment is expected for heavier lifts.
