Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Technician to join our team at Indiana University. As a key member of our Campus Facilities department, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems across our campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • System Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, including pipes, valves, and controls.
  • Diagnostic and Troubleshooting: Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to inspect and test controls and systems, and locate malfunctions.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the optimal performance of HVAC-related equipment, including changing belts and filters, greasing motors, and cleaning and lubricating machinery.
  • Repair and Replacement: Repair or replace defective parts, including valves, pipes, and controls, and fabricate and assemble structural and functional components of refrigeration systems.
  • System Charging and Testing: Charge systems with the proper type of refrigerant and test systems to ensure proper function.
  • Water Treatment and Management: Perform water treatments of closed-loop water systems, cooling towers, chilled water, and heating systems by collecting and testing water samples and adding appropriate chemicals to maintain correct levels and balances.
  • Training and Assistance: Train apprentices and other personnel as needed and assist in bidding and design work with the manager.
  • Emergency Response: Be available to work during inclement weather and respond to emergency situations as needed.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 5 years of verifiable journey-level experience or a certificate in a relevant DOL apprenticed trade.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University.
  • Skills: Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner, proficient communication skills, and a high degree of professionalism.
Working Conditions:

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and move about the workplace for long durations, as well as the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role also requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs and position oneself in low-level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases, and work in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections.
