Job Title: IT Project Manager I

At Houston Methodist, we are seeking an IT Project Manager I to join our team. This is an entry-level project manager position that is ideal for someone looking to learn and grow in their career.

Job Summary:

The IT Project Manager I is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of small to medium-scale technology projects. Under the guidance of management, the successful candidate will ensure that project outcomes match agreed-upon customer expectations, effectively communicate project information to stakeholders, and lead project-related meetings to gain consensus on outcomes and goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Under guidance of management, plans and organizes projects, including formulating and defining scope and objectives, determining time frames, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project(s).
  • Establishes project quality plans, including the application of PMO testing standards, and identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks.
  • Prepares Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) for the project and assists IT Financial Analyst(s) with the approval process, manages Purchase Orders (PO) and invoices throughout the project life cycle, and closes all project expenditures at the end of the project.
  • Proposes opportunities to improve the Portfolio & Process Management Office and participates in improvement initiatives, and proactively manages own professional development and completes Individual Development Plan (IDP).
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with an information technology focus or four years of experience managing small to medium-scale projects required in lieu of degree.
  • None if have Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with an information technology focus.
  • PMP - Certified Project Management Professional (PMI) is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Project management skills with ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to deliver projects using leading-edge technology.
  • Solid knowledge of current technologies.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively facilitate meetings.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate under a dual reporting relationship (IT, customers).
  • Solid knowledge in Microsoft Office products.
