Certified Housing Inspector

Join the City of Shreveport, LA team as a Certified Housing Inspector and play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of residential properties.
Job Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Housing Inspector to join our team. As a Certified Housing Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of residential properties to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct inspections of residential properties to identify any defects or hazards
- Review work specifications and cost estimates for housing rehabilitation projects
- Monitor contractors' performance to ensure quality work and compliance with specifications
- Certify payments for contractors and secure homeowner/contractor signatures
- Review change orders and deficiencies, and approve or deny as necessary
- Plan and schedule pre-construction conferences to ensure specifications are met
- Advertise jobs, solicit bids, and prepare contracts for work to be done
- Prepare monthly reports and analyze housing activity
- Assist in recruiting and developing a pool of contractors
- Attend meetings, conferences, and training sessions
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Four (4) years of experience in inspections/housing rehabilitation, construction, or a related field
- Thorough knowledge of the City of Shreveport's housing code and related ordinances
- Necessary certifications, including Housing Rehabilitation by the Southern Building Congress and lead paint and asbestos abatement by the Louisiana State Department of Environmental Quality
- Valid driver's license
This role requires frequent and extensive walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling while working in confined spaces. You will also be required to operate handheld computers and regular computer equipment, and may be exposed to insects and adverse environmental conditions.
