Job Summary

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Supervisory Inspector. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting complex safety and environmental inspections of oil, gas, and other mineral well operations on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to inspection personnel to ensure adherence to inspection schedules and overall program objectives.
  • Plan, direct, organize, and review the work of inspectors to ensure the conduct of offshore operations in a manner consistent with OCS regulations and directives.
  • Assign responsibility for the conduct of inspections, including selection of inspection team leaders based on qualifications and facility/equipment complexity.
  • Coordinate field inspections, manpower, and offshore transportation to optimize inspection resources and meet regulatory inspection requirements.
  • Enforce and promote compliance with safety, environmental, and site security requirements for conventional, established, or new types of drilling, workover/completion, or abandonment equipment/systems.
  • Resolve issues of a controversial or complex nature referred by the inspection staff in the field.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be subject to a background/suitability investigation/determination.
  • Must have federal payments made by Direct Deposit.
  • Must submit ALL required documents and a completed questionnaire.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience:

  • Conducting an investigation of an accident or significant incident, compiling all pertinent data including interviews of operator staff, and writing a report that substantiates findings that may serve as a basis for recommendations for a Civil Penalty.
  • Evaluating the Region's inspection program and providing recommendations to help improve the program's processes.
  • Participating in Operator Annual Performance Reviews (APR) and providing inspector perspectives on their operations to help improve overall operations and safety.
Education
