About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to join our Water/Wastewater Treatment Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering design solutions for water-related projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of preliminary reports, design drawings, technical specifications, and front-end contractual documents.
  • Analyze and interpret survey, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photographs, water quality data, and other analytical data to plan and design water and/or wastewater treatment facilities, storage tanks, and pump stations.
  • Prepare and present reports or analysis, including design calculations, field data results/conclusions, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate work with other engineering and/or environmental disciplines to develop design deliverables.
  • Train and mentor early career Engineering employees.
  • Communicate directly with external stakeholders, including vendors, subcontractors, contractors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide support for construction projects, including cost estimation, construction phasing/scheduling, site inspections, responding to RFI's, and shop drawing review.
  • May serve as Project Manager of smaller projects.
  • Act as a leader in implementing and promoting health and safety requirements and guidance.
  • Support preparation of proposals, fee estimates, purchase orders, and subcontract agreements.
  • Effectively utilize established quality control processes and provide quality work to the project manager.
  • Regularly communicate task/project status to the project manager or project owner.
  • Coordinate work on multiple projects to maintain project objectives and timelines.
  • Participate in relevant professional societies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 8+ years of qualifying engineering experience in the engineering/design field.
  • Professional licensure within Maryland, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Professional licensure in District of Columbia is a benefit.
  • Mastery of relevant engineering fundamentals.
  • Technical proficiency and specific experience in water and/or wastewater treatment engineering and design fundamentals.
  • Personal qualities that will help you succeed in this role include:
    • Consistently utilize sound judgment and discretion in performance of job functions.
    • Adhere to the policies and standards set forth in the Firm's Quality Management System.
    • Ability to build strong relationships with other teams/divisions/disciplines.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Excellent presentation skills.
    • Work effectively as part of a team located in various office locations.
    • Desire for continuous improvement.
