The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists by performing various tasks related to medication management.

This includes the preparation and distribution of prescriptions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.


ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
General Technician Duties

  • Adheres to all regulatory requirements and completes mandatory training as required.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor with patients and staff while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Follows HIPAA regulations and assists in preparing and distributing medications.
  • Handles daily billing processes accurately.
  • Manages inventory and stock requisitions effectively.
  • Keeps work areas organized and clean, ensuring all equipment is maintained properly.
  • Conducts regular inspections of pharmacy inventory to remove expired or unusable medications.
Hospital Technician Duties

  • Assists in the preparation of sterile intravenous medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Ensures adequate stock levels of medications in automated dispensing systems.
  • Monitors and manages discontinued medications in nursing units.
  • Repackages and labels medications accurately under pharmacist supervision.
  • Restocks emergency medication supplies as needed.
Retail Technician Duties

  • Handles prescription retrieval from patients.
  • Enters data and prescriptions accurately.
  • Fills prescriptions efficiently.
  • Provides customer service, including answering calls and resolving prescription-related issues.
  • Operates the cash register and processes transactions.
  • Follows safety and infection control protocols consistently.
  • Records relevant information in medical records as permitted by job duties.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience - High School Diploma or GED required.

Licensure and Certifications - Must meet state-specific licensure requirements:


For Nebraska: Registration as a Pharmacy Technician is required upon hire, along with certification.

For Iowa: Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy is necessary prior to working in the pharmacy area, with certification required within one year of hire.

Certification requirements vary by state:
In Nebraska, a board-approved certification is mandatory.

Applicable certifications include:
Certified Pharmacy Technician PTCB (CPT-PTCB) or other state-recognized certifications.

In Iowa, national certification is required.
