The Opportunity: Mechanic

The Commonwealth of Virginia DBA Virginia Port Authority is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team at Virginia Inland Port. This individual will be responsible for performing maintenance on complex machinery and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work under established standard operating procedures and safety guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on various equipment and machinery, including straddle carriers, cranes, forklifts, and hustler trucks.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures, applying corrective actions to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations.
  • Start all equipment at the beginning of each day and ensure all equipment is filled with gas.
  • Perform monthly PMs and identify needed parts for repairs.
  • Keep aging cranes up and running to ensure proper function within specifications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as needed to ensure all equipment operates at desired levels.
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics to diagnose and repair complex issues.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required. At least 1 year of trade school is preferred.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • At least 1 year of experience is required.
