About the Opportunity

The Commonwealth of Virginia DBA Virginia Port Authority is seeking a skilled Mechanic I to join our team at Virginia Inland Port. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and machinery, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and machinery, including straddle carriers, cranes, forklifts, and hustler trucks.
  • Work under established standard operating procedures and safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures, applying corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure all equipment operates at desired levels.
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics to identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all security, safety, and environmental regulations and policies within the work area.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year of trade school or relevant work experience preferred.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
