Role Summary:
The Head of Human Resources and Safety will oversee the HR and safety functions, ensuring alignment with the organizational values and strategic objectives of Cimarron Trailers. This role is pivotal in fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes engagement, safety, and productivity. The incumbent will lead the HR and safety team and collaborate with the shared services HR team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the HR and Safety team across multiple locations.
- Develop, implement, and manage HR initiatives including training, retention strategies, recruitment processes, employee relations, compensation structures, and leave management.
- Assess and enhance current HR practices to improve operational efficiency, exploring automation opportunities through HR information systems.
- Work with various teams to identify and address training and development needs, ensuring that training programs are relevant and effective.
- Engage with external vendors and shared services to deliver training solutions as required.
- Oversee the creation and execution of company policies, including the employee handbook and other HR-related policies.
- Analyze complex employee relations matters and propose effective resolutions.
- Collaborate closely with shared services on compliance and legal matters, as well as employee escalations.
- Establish performance goals for the HR and Safety team and develop metrics to track progress.
- Communicate effectively with leadership and management regarding HR policies and workforce needs.
- Manage safety initiatives, including accident data analysis, OSHA compliance, training development, and safety audits.
- Participate in reviews of workers' compensation claims and provide updates to leadership on significant claims.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Perform additional duties as required to meet business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related discipline.
- Professional certification such as SPHR, PHR, or SHRM-CP is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of HR leadership experience in a manufacturing setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of employment and labor laws.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and workers' compensation systems.
- Proficient in various HR information systems and computer applications, with a preference for experience in ADP.
- Competence in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with management, staff, vendors, and clients.
- Exceptional organizational skills, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
- Sound judgment and decision-making capabilities.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to groups.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and manage various tasks simultaneously.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand and move throughout the workplace.
- Occasional lifting of items not exceeding 25 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Safety glasses and ear protection while in designated areas.
- Safety shoes must be worn at all times.
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with regular attendance being essential.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Exposure to various environmental conditions, including temperature variations.
