Job Title: Senior Instructional Designer and Writer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Instructional Designer and Writer to join our team at WETA/PBS NewsHour. As a key member of our education content team, you will be responsible for developing and creating high-quality, research-based instructional content for our Reading Universe website.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and write instructional content, including skill explainers and lesson plans, that is engaging, accessible, and aligned with current research in reading instruction.
  • Collaborate with our video production team to identify, scout, and prepare schools for in-classroom video filming, and to review and comment on rough cuts of video content.
  • Represent Reading Universe at conferences, meetings, and other events, and provide expert advice on reading instruction and literacy development.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in reading instruction and literacy education, and apply this knowledge to inform our content and programming.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or doctoral degree in education or a related field (e.g. linguistics or speech pathology).
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development, particularly in the area of reading instruction and literacy education.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to create engaging and accessible content for adult learners.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to cultural responsiveness.
