Job Summary:
Barnes & Noble College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Department Head - Cafe to join our team. As a key member of our store operations team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the daily activities of the cafe, ensuring exceptional customer service, and driving sales and promotions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and train booksellers to provide outstanding customer service and ensure the availability, freshness, and quality of products.
- Manage daily activities of the cafe, including preparing food and drinks, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, and enforcing safe food handling and loss prevention practices.
- Assign work and provide focused direction to booksellers to ensure the set up and restocking of displays, wrapping, labeling, dating, and rotating food items for sale.
- Resolve customer issues and complaints and escalate to senior management when necessary.
- Manage inventory, stock, and rotation of perishable items, operate equipment, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies, and perform preventive maintenance.
- Replenish customer service stations, order/receive supplies or products, and take out trash.
- Assist with processing sales transactions and/or with training booksellers to complete transactions.
- Conduct regular meetings with team to provide feedback on sales and upcoming promotions.
Requirements:
- 2+ years experience in a retail service setting as a manager or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Previous food handling experience preferred.
- High-energy, friendly personality, with strong communication skills to interact with a variety of people.
- Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
- Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
