Position Overview:

The Coding Team Leader is tasked with overseeing a dedicated group of coding professionals, ensuring adherence to all applicable Federal and local regulations while accurately applying CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes across diverse medical documentation. This role is integral in supporting and advancing the vision, mission, and strategic objectives of Methodist Health System.

Key Qualifications:
  • Must reside in the DFW Metroplex and be open to traveling to various clinics.

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in medical coding

• Valid certification(s) from AAPC or AHIMA required

• Extensive knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding systems

• Proficient in multi-specialty coding, including surgery, trauma, and family practice

• At least one year of experience in a managerial coding role, or two years in a lead or supervisory capacity

• Familiarity with EPIC systems preferred

• Proven track record in driving departmental profitability

• Strong understanding of the revenue cycle and the implications of coding on reimbursement

• In-depth knowledge of CMS and Novitas guidelines and coding directives

• Experience in liaising with healthcare professionals across various credentials

• Exceptional presentation skills in verbal, written, and face-to-face communication

• Strong research abilities to navigate coding compliance inquiries

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Ensure effective delegation of tasks among coding staff to maintain a 48-hour turnaround for coding and charge entry.

• Collaborate closely with management from other departments to integrate the coding team into a seamless reimbursement cycle through quality reviews and timely feedback on corrective actions.

• Investigate and analyze unusual coding patterns that may pose risks to the organization.

• Report findings to the director and assist in follow-up actions to ensure compliance and corrective measures.

• Conduct regular internal audits of coding staff to guarantee accuracy and minimize claims denials.

• Review reports to identify areas of risk, errors, financial implications, and other factors affecting the timely and accurate collection of billable services.

• Identify and recruit certified coders for various positions within the department.

• Develop and deliver internal training sessions for coding staff on annual coding updates, payer trends, policies, EPIC optimization, and operational processes.
