Role Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant will undertake essential administrative and clinical responsibilities to facilitate smooth office operations and support healthcare professionals in the examination and treatment of patients.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficient understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology. Competence in utilizing personal computers and relevant software applications. Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients and colleagues. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Proficient in record management and financial documentation. Capability to gather, document, and maintain accurate data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in direct patient care activities; check in patients, gather medical histories, measure vital signs, prepare medical charts, and support medical examinations.
  • Conduct routine specialized procedures such as blood draws, catheter insertions, and sterile dressing changes following established protocols. Collect and prepare laboratory samples for testing.
  • Organize examination room instruments and equipment; sterilize medical tools; dispose of contaminated materials; maintain inventory of medications and medical supplies.
  • Provide education and guidance to patients on specific medical topics within established protocols.
  • Handle administrative tasks including answering phones, welcoming patients, updating and organizing medical records, verifying demographic and insurance details, scheduling appointments, and managing billing and bookkeeping.
  • Adhere to safety, environmental, and infection control protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
This role may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. It may require handling potentially hazardous equipment and frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions, such as risks associated with radiation, bloodborne pathogens, and toxic substances, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols. The position may also require working hours beyond the standard schedule and engaging in activities that vary significantly in volume based on clinical needs. Physical demands include frequent bending, occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds, and consistent standing and walking.

Qualifications:

Required Certifications: One of the following nationally recognized Medical Assistant credentials is required: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologist (AMT), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Association of Medical Personnel (AAMP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) by National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Allied Health (AAH).
