Position Overview:

The IHR/PRN Registered Nurse for Inpatient Services embodies the core mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine. This role adheres to the organization's ethical standards and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

The Inpatient Staff Nurse is a skilled, licensed professional who manages, delegates, and coordinates nursing care for patients experiencing acute health issues. This is accomplished through a systematic nursing process that includes assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse effectively engages with patients, their families, and the healthcare team while upholding the standards set forth by the American Nurses Association.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and evaluate patient data, establish expected outcomes, formulate and execute a personalized care plan, and assess progress towards these outcomes.
  • Oversee care delivery and determine the appropriate use of support staff involved in direct patient care.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary personnel to create a documented care plan focused on outcomes and effective communication.
  • Engage in shared governance, participate in committee activities, and contribute to unit initiatives.
  • Assess and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the medical record, tailoring the care plan based on evaluation results.
  • Incorporate the best available evidence, including research findings, to inform clinical practice decisions.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of Illinois
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and strong analytical skills
  • *An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is acceptable with a commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited institution within three years of employment in a clinical nursing role.

Preferred:

  • Experience with vascular access procedures, including MID/PICC lines and ultrasound-guided IV placements.
