Job Summary:

The Staff Nurse provides high-quality patient care in the Emergency Department, utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and direct nursing care with a focus on family-centered care for individuals or groups of patients within the assigned scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients served, regardless of age and developmental status.
  • Perform leadership and professional duties, including precepting new employees and acting as a mentor to clinical staff.
  • Support the provider staff and actively promote collaboration for efficient operation and quality care, and legendary customer service for pediatric patients using a team approach.
  • Perform systems-based practice duties, including working with various levels within an organization and utilizing electronic medical record systems.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or must be obtained within 5 years from date of hire.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support training from the American Heart Association required.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

Staff may be temporarily assigned to an area throughout the Akron Children's Hospital enterprise, based on patient needs requiring similar knowledge and skill.
