Emergency Department Nurse Job Description

Cleveland Clinic Akron General's Bath Health and Wellness Center is seeking a skilled Emergency Department Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete emergency department assessment data for patients, including psychosocial, educational, and age-specific needs.
  • Review and document care and discharge goals with physicians, patients, and families.
  • Administer and document IVs and medications.
  • Intervene when changes in a patient's condition occur and document nursing interventions and patient responses.
  • Assign and delegate appropriate patient care activities to other nursing caregivers.
  • Provide appropriate care for alleged rape/sexual assault victims.
  • Provide community referrals to patients and families.
  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain competencies, requirements, certification, and/or licensure.
Requirements:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Two years of emergency room experience or relevant critical care experience.
Physical Requirements:

This role requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. It also requires standing and walking for extended periods, corrected vision and hearing, and working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids is also a requirement of this role.

This is a medium work role, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Personal Protective Equipment:

This role requires following standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
