Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Professor of Empathy and Compassion Research to join our team at the University of California, San Diego. The successful candidate will be an expert in the field of empathy and compassion research and will have a strong track record of academic excellence, research productivity, and teaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a rigorous program of high-quality research in empathy and compassion
  • Pursue research and teaching activities aligned with the mission of the Department of Psychiatry and the Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion
  • Teach and mentor students in our various educational programs
  • Participate in basic or translational research and/or clinical care of patients
Requirements
  • PhD in health sciences or related fields and/or MD degree or equivalent
  • Current research program in a health-related discipline with a track record of obtaining extramural funding and productivity
  • Track record of teaching and/or mentorship activities
  • Board certification or Board eligibility in a related field and eligibility for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting basic or applied research relevant to the understanding of empathy and/or compassion
  • Contributions relevant to the field of social psychology/neuroscience
