The Automotive Service Technician is tasked with executing repairs and maintenance on both customer and dealership vehicles, adhering to management's standards for productivity, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine vehicle history and relevant factory bulletins pertaining to the specific make and model, with a focus on any outstanding campaigns.
  • Conduct comprehensive system diagnostics and automotive troubleshooting.
  • Submit required vehicle work to management for approval.
  • Document proposed and additional work on paper or technician terminal.
  • Upon receiving repair authorization, request necessary parts from the parts department and return any parts that need to be saved by the customer or factory.
  • Assist team members in customer retention efforts and provide daily status updates.
  • Perform various vehicle repairs after receiving approval and parts.
  • Test drive vehicles as needed to diagnose and confirm repairs.
  • Notify dispatcher, advisor, team leader, or electronic technician terminal upon job completion and make any final notes regarding recommended work.
  • Stay informed about all safety protocols set by management and other agencies, particularly concerning hazardous waste disposal.
  • Engage in ongoing education and maintain training and/or certification records.
  • Keep workspaces tidy and ensure personal and shop tools are in good condition.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of automotive systems and components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostics. Proficient in using diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
  2. Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers, explain repairs, and collaborate with service team members.
  3. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex automotive problems and determine effective repair solutions. Skilled in analyzing symptoms, conducting tests, and identifying root causes.
  4. Attention to Detail: Precision is vital in automotive repair to ensure tasks are completed correctly and safely. The technician must closely follow manufacturer guidelines, adjust components, and test repairs.
  5. Customer Service Orientation: The automotive technician will directly engage with customers, particularly when discussing repairs or providing estimates. A customer-focused attitude and the ability to address concerns professionally will enhance the overall service experience.
  6. Safety Compliance: The automotive technician must prioritize safety in all work aspects, including following proper procedures, responsibly handling hazardous materials, and using personal protective equipment as necessary.
Preferred Education and Experience:

Preferred qualifications include completion of a college, community college, or automotive technician training program, vocational school, or a combination thereof; or a one-year certificate from a college, technical school, or factory apprentice program; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A high school diploma or equivalent, along with automotive work experience and training, may also be considered.
This position is not an apprenticeship.
