Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist for Individuals with Mental Health Needs

The position of Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist is available at S:US, a leading organization in the field of mental health and vocational rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in assessment, case management, and job development, with a focus on supporting individuals with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders.

Job Overview

The IPS Employment Specialist will be a key member of a mobile multi-disciplinary treatment team, working closely with clients to achieve their employment goals. The role involves conducting individualized assessments, developing employment plans, and providing job coaching and benefits counseling to support clients in securing and maintaining employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Skills: Advocate for client rights and preferences; assess and design interventions to promote progress towards community integration, independence, career, and education goals; lead work readiness groups; integrate IPS Employment goals and services with ACT Team tasks; complete vocation and education needs assessments; provide support around job and education trainings, resumes, etc.
  • Data and Accountability: Spend at least 65% of work hours off-site, in the community; engage in direct service provision, collaborative documentation, and job development activities; provide rapid non-traditional employment opportunities; network with businesses and vocational programs; ensure timely completion of documentations and compliance with agency and OMH regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field (e.g., psychology, social work, human resources)
  • Initial and ongoing training in vocational services and benefits and financial management
  • Experience working with vocational needs of persons with disabilities; ability to travel independently or with reasonable accommodations
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; reliable and able to work independently while maintaining confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingualism in any language
  • Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of work incentives and government benefits (SSI, SSDI, Ticket to Work, PASS Plans, ACCESS-VR); understanding of various evidence-based models and theories pertaining to psycho-education, motivational interviewing, serious mental illness, and recovery
